Dr. Richard D. Brand, MD
Who could be better qualified than a Diabetes Doctor living with diabetes himself?
Dr. Richard Brand is an Internal Medicine physician, specializing in the treatment and management of diabetes. Dr. Brand has lived with diabetes since his diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes at the age of 30. He is well aware of the issues that accompany it and has devoted his practice to the care and treatment of other individuals living with diabetes.
Dr. Brand has been in private practice in Oxnard for over 30 years. He is certified by the National Board of Diabetes Educators and is the director of the Diabetes Education and Nutrition Services (DEANS) program. He is currently the director of the Healthy Beginnings program at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, a program for low income women who develop diabetes during pregnancy.
Dr. Brand attended the University of Illinois where he received his Bachelor of Science in Biology, The Chicago Medical School, followed by a Medical Internship and Residency at Los Angeles County- USC Medical Center. Dr. Brand also completed a year residency in OB-GYN at Northwestern University. He is Board certified in Internal Medicine, a Certified Diabetes Educator, past president of the American Diabetes Association and past board member for the California Medical Association.
He is on staff at St. John’s Regional Medical Center and Pleasant Valley Hospital. Dr. Brand says “what is good for him is good for his patients.” He is an avid bike rider, a swimmer, enjoys walking and hiking, a pianist, and maintains a healthy and active lifestyle.
